Delhi Metro Buddy (the website at metrobuddy.tenthfloorlabs.com and the Android app that opens it) is a free tool run by Tenth Floor Labs. It's an unofficial community app, not affiliated with DMRC. This policy covers both.
What we collect
- An anonymous profile. The first time you open the app we create a profile with a random display name (you can change it) and store its ID in a cookie on your device. There is no sign-up, and we never ask for your phone number.
- What you post. Seat offers, claims and requests: the line, direction, station, coach, door, an optional landmark, and the short description you give so a matched rider can recognise you. Descriptions are only shown to the rider you're matched with.
- Karma and activity. Karma changes, badges, thanks and leaderboard positions. You can hide yourself from leaderboards on your profile.
- Reports and blocks you make, used to hide riders reported by several people.
- Google sign-in (optional). If you sign in with Google we store only Google's account ID, so your karma follows you to another phone. We don't store your email address or name.
Location
Location is used only when you tap “Use my location” or turn on live location during a trip. Your coordinates are compared with station positions on your device to pick the nearest station; they are not sent to our servers or stored. When you then post an offer or request, the station you chose is sent, not your coordinates.
What stays on your device
Your current trip, recent routes and remembered train direction are stored in your browser and never leave your device.
Who processes data for us
- Vercel hosts the app (servers in the USA) and Neon hosts the database (Singapore).
- Google handles sign-in if you choose to use it.
- The exit gate finder sends what you type to Photon (komoot), an OpenStreetMap place search, together with an area around your chosen station. It doesn't include your identity.
- “Walking directions” opens Google Maps with the gate and destination you picked.
We don't show ads, we don't sell or share data for advertising, and we don't use tracking cookies.
How long we keep it
Offers expire after 30 minutes and requests after 20, but their records stay so karma and leaderboards add up. Everything is kept until you delete it.
Deleting your data
Open your profile and tap Delete my data. This cancels anything open, removes your karma, badges, reports, blocks and descriptions, unlinks Google, and removes your name from the app. Records that other riders' history depends on (a seat they claimed from you) stay, with no link to you. Clearing your browser data also ends your anonymous profile on that device.
Children
The app is meant for metro riders aged 13 and over.
