Delhi Metro seat exchange

Delhi Metro Buddy connects riders who are about to get off with riders who are standing on the same train. Seats on the metro have no numbers, so a seat is described by its coach, counted from the front, its nearest door and a landmark. There's no chat and no phone numbers, only short descriptions.

How it works

  1. 1Offer your seatGetting off in a few stops? Post your line, direction, coach, nearest door and exit station.
  2. 2Someone claims itA standing rider on the same train claims it and says how to recognise them. You pick who gets it.
  3. 3Hand it overStand up at your stop, they sit down, and you both confirm. You earn karma.

Karma

Seats are free, never sold. Every rider starts with 3 karma. Claiming a seat holds 1 karma, which comes back if the handoff doesn't happen. Giving a seat earns 1, or 2 when you give it to someone who is elderly, pregnant, injured, with a child or carrying luggage. Those riders claim for free and go to the top of the list. Coach 1, at the front of the train, is women-only, and the app warns before anyone claims a seat there.
